This gorgeous gelding is an absolute love and so eager to please. It was the desire of his aging former owner that he find his forever home where he will be doted on as he deserves. Calloway had a leg injury in his past when he was under one, which might limit his riding abilities if there is a desire to put him under saddle, but he has not shown any lameness nor has it hindered his day to day life whatsoever. He’s an easy keeper, loves to be groomed and a gentleman for the farrier.

This stunning OTTB was surrendered to the Rescue at the end of 2022 after sustaining a severe hoof injury his owner could not care for. Known as Tally Stick in his racing career, you can look him up for some of his 1st place winnings. After racing in England, Canada and then landing here in Colorado, he was retired by his last owner until unfortunately that owner passed away and Rainier and his companions ended up at an auction. Shortly after being with us, we realized how seriously damaged his hoof was as 1⁄3 of it literally fell apart. It has been a long road to recovery for Rainier as we have done everything we possibly can to help him on his healing journey. He enjoys being patiently brushed and is always eager for human attention and interaction. Rainier is ready for an experienced person that wants to go on walks and can care for him throughout his next chapter in life.

Whiskey is a paint gelding who knows he’s big and beautiful! This gentlemen has been retired from riding but still enjoys being lightly worked with on the ground for walks, liberty and more. He enjoys the attention, being groomed and massage and stretching work as he has developed some arthritis in his neck. He’s a little bit of an amicable trickster, providing entertainment to his equine and human friends alike. Whiskey is currently being fostered as a sanctuary equine at the Bristlecone View Ranch in Fairplay with our other companion available equine Zara.

Zara is a special mare with a big personality. She led an extensive career in the show ring in her earlier years and was even named Morgan of the Year. Retired now with the Rescue for several years, she is enjoying a slower paced life, though she still enjoys her celebrity status. Unfortunately, as a result of being worked so hard in her younger years, she has developed a sway back which thankfully doesn’t seem to bother her one bit. She loves being groomed and pampered and would love someone to take her for walks and cultivate a connection with her. Zara’s ideal placement would be as a companion horse.

Cosmo was rounded up in 2017 as a young colt and came to the Rescue when she was approximately 9 months old. Cosmo has a quiet strength and a gentle spirit and is quick to get along with others – humans and equines alike. She has an incredible foundation of groundwork and loves to do things at liberty. Cosmo has been started under saddle and is progressing nicely in her training. She is walk/trot under saddle in the arena and has done some light trail work.
She’s intelligent, willing, and responsive, but needs an experienced rider that can help her work through some spooking and confidence building. She does best with calm, consistent handling and forms a deep bond with her person. This special mare is ready for her next chapter and would thrive in a home where she can continue her journey as a riding partner, trail companion, or even a liberty horse.

Adira is the matriarch of our biggest Rescue to date – the Hartsel Herd. When she came to us in October 2021, we rescued her 2 daughters and granddaughter as well. And shortly thereafter we found out that all 3 were bred. We learned that she has given birth to at least 7 foals in her young life and has always been watching over her family. Near the end of her pregnancy, she endured some complications but pulled through and then sadly we lost her foal days after it was born. Adira was finally able to just be a horse. She has quickly shown us how willing she is to do everything she can to stay at the Rescue. From camp programming to pony rides, nothing really phases this sweet mare although she does share her thoughts from time to time. Her preference is to ride outside on the trail as opposed to an arena, but when bonded with a person I think she will surprise us all with what she’s willing to do. We are continuing her training as she helps with our educational programs.

Daisy was born in 2022 and captured in the Fall of her birth year from Northern California. She’s still a little shy and unsure but gets braver every day. Beginning to accept the halter on and off, she has a calm and easy demeanor although she may take a minute to soak it in. She has a face that just absolutely melts your heart and has the softest eyes that warm your soul. Daisy is ready for an experienced person that speaks burro and can connect with her.

We snatched Fig up from the Canon City holding facility this past summer. He is such a sweet young man with a great personality. Fig has been given these past few months time to settle and be a part of a herd. He’s beginning to trust humans and accepts light touching. We haven’t done much more at this point so trainer skills are required for this little nugget or a willingness to hire one as he embarks on his next chapter.

Henry was rounded up from the Johnnie HMA in Southern NV in 2023 and moved around until he ended up in the holding facilities in Canon City. Brought to the Rescue in the Summer of 2025, this young BLM burro is a bit shy at first, but shows a gentle and willing nature once given time and patience. With calm handling and consistency, he’s eager to build trust and will blossom into a loyal companion. Henry has a unique red color along with his star within a star face markings make this fella about as handsome as can be. He’s looking for a home that has another burro for a friend and a person that has the time to connect with him.

This sweet little lady came to us from another CO rescue with 3 other friends. Originally coming from an auction situation, she was quite scared when she first came to the Rescue in the Fall of 2022. Her abusive past has really traumatized her ability to trust humans and so we’ve been taking things at her pace. Currently under training with our dedicated volunteers, and slowly but surely learning that we’re here to help and care for them, Quinlan is finally at a place where she’s ready to bond to her human. It will certainly take some time and patience BUT we truly think the skies the limit for this special girl in the right environment and home!

This bonded pair that came to us from another CO rescue with 2 other friends. Originally coming from an auction situation, they were quite scared when we got them in the Fall of 2022. They will need someone that has experience and confidence to catch, halter and lead safely. With some months of positive reinforcement underway, they have begun to trust us humans and will take some time to build those connections and relationships. Oreo now has some basic foundational skills and is doing obstacle work and Peaches is really beginning to trust us humans! At this point in their training, we feel they would benefit from being together in a home
that can continue building these bonds.

This sweet and handsome gelding came to us from an elderly woman that simply couldn’t care for him anymore. Well broke, especially to trail ride, we have been working on fine tuning some ground skills and keeping a light hand on the reins! Waylon is currently being used in our educational programming where he is learning alongside our volunteers about connection and relationships. He is gentle and kind but is still relearning and remembering things – nothing a little time and patience can’t help with. He is looking for a more experienced rider that can take him on his forever home journey.

This cute little Jenny was rounded up in the summer of 2022 in Arizona. We rescued her from the holding facility in Canon City in November 2023. At this time, we are able to halter and touch her. She is slowly starting to be led as well. Ysabella is looking for a home that can continue her training and trust in human connection.
